This paper proposes a method of power flow control using Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM). It has been demonstrated that the STATCOM has the capability of regulating the voltage and minimizing the power losses simultaneously. A suitable model of STATCOM is incorporated in a general program developed in MATLAB. Newton Raphson Algorithm has been used for power flow analysis. The Placement of STATCOM for optimal power flow control is demonstrated on an IEEE-14 Test Bus System. Results with and without STATCOM have been illustrated. PV and QV curves have been drawn for voltage stability analysis. The hardware model of STATCOM was also presented. Keywords

The UPFC is the most versatile FACTS controller developed so far, with all encompassing capabilities of voltage regulation, series compensation, and phase shifting. It also brings in new challenges in power electronics and power system design. A simulation model of a single phase UPFC is designed and drawn in MATLAB-Simulink. UPFC offers advantages in terms of dynamic operation of power system by incorporating PI and Fuzzy controller. The Hardware model is developed for UPFC using rectifier and inverter circuits with the help of MOSFET. The experimental results are compared with the simulation results. Keywords
